Lions International Essay Contest

Contest is open to students who are considered visually impaired according to their national guidelines and will be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15, 2010. Only a Lions club can sponsor the contest. The contest may be sponsored in a local school(s) or organized, sponsored youth group(s), or individuals may be sponsored as well.

The contest theme is “Power of Peace.”

Lion Lesley Chudleigh on 01308 868422 or will act as point of contact and Coordinator for 105SW. Entries should be with her no later than 31st January 2011, in order that the winning entry may be selected and passed to Council Chairman Jacquie Prebble by 1st March 2011.

Lions District 105SW - Autumn District Forum

The event will be held at Okehampton College as in previous years. Registration is from 9.00am and the day will start promptly at 10.00am. It should finish by 4.00pm. Please return cheque and form by 2nd October 2010 to Lion Andrew Bryant. Please note that a nil return is required if no members from your club are attending.

Draft of the new Vulnerable Persons Policy

This is still to have final amendments and to be ratified by Multiple District but District Governor Christine and District Cabinet decided to send this out in the spirit of keeping all clubs and members updated with what is happening.

Remember that this is a draft and not yet policy and until advised otherwise please continue to complete the existing CRB forms and renew prior to expiry so that they are kept up to date.

News from Haiti

Lions Clubs International in Haiti from the start, still there, until the finish - rebuilding the community.

Within hours of news of the magnitude of the major earthquake in Haiti, Lions Clubs from across the British Isles and Ireland were busy fund raising and making donations to our Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to provide immediate response aid to the people of Haiti.

Currently, Lions Clubs of the British Isles and Ireland have donated more than £209,000.

Located in the heart of the country within the National Forest near Lichfield, the National Memorial Arboretum comprises 150 acres of over 50,000 trees and over 150 memorials devoted to the concept of Remembrance and acknowledging the enduring sacrifice of those who mourn their loss - But they need help and, in our diamond anniversary year, we are asking every club to consider signing up to answering their need.
